Initial project consultation is complimentary, it includes a conceptual design package tailored to the project. This includes a selection of inspirational images personalized to the client, a preliminary written concept, preliminary scheduling & budgeting guide, and a design proposal.
For custom design and fabrication it is ideal if intended project budget is over $10,000 – which can be for one item or many; however, depending on our workload, we will take projects valued below $10,000 in order to build relationships or to maintain excellent relationships with established clients. This is intended to serve as a rough guideline at to the cost of working with us, we are typically hired for projects where our total budgets are from the tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
We have three pricing options for the design phase of a project:
Design can be priced at a fixed rate of $500 per item furniture sized or smaller. Our policy is a $1,000 minimum. This fee includes the first design development meeting and one design & review cycle. If additional conceptual design & review cycles are needed they will be billed at $500 per cycle per item needing additional design. If only one item is being designed, and the client has paid a $1,000 fee, the fee is considered earned and a future item will require no initial fee, or the next round of revisions will be at no charge.
Design can be billed at $150/hr + expenses. This option is best when the project involves a large amount of design and the scope and item count is yet to be determined. On large projects this is the most cost effective option since the other two need to include our development risk.
For prefered existing designers who have a track record of successfully selling the pieces we design for them, we offer a no-commitment pricing option on smaller projects and on introductory design for their new clients. For this option our work is tracked but not billed unless a fabrication quote is accepted, in which case the design efforts are rolled into the quote at $200/hr. If a piece is not approved the designer owes nothing. Agreement for this option is on a case-by-case basis and must be approved for each project in writing. This makes the most sense on small pieces and initial projects where clients may be testing the waters. Or, when a project is straight-forward and expediency is necessary. On larger projects the other two pricing options are more cost effective.
Once a concept has been approved, we generate an estimate for the fabrication of the item with allowances for design, fabrication, crating and delivery, and installation.
Requests for changes in the design after the quote will be billed at $175 + expenses. Any changes that alter the scope of the the fabrication quote will be issued as a +/- change-order.
Designer retains all rights of reproduction for designs presented and design approved unless agreed upon otherwise in a written contract and for additional compensation.
